The Rijksmuseum is the largest museum in the Netherlands, not only because of the size of the collection, but also because of the museum's surface area, budget and number. More than a million people visit the museum every year.

Since December 2003 and until 2008, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam has been experiencing the largest renovations, renovation and renewal in its history. During this period, the Rijksmuseum's masterpieces from the 17th century will remain on display to the public under the title The Masterpieces.
